If you head down Nehru Road in Arjun Nagar, you’ll find my shop at 944. It’s a bit of an unusual mix because I handle both property stuff and hardware. I know it sounds strange, but that’s just how it worked out over the years. Some days I’m talking to someone about a flat nearby, and the next minute I’m digging through a bin to find a specific size of washer for a leaky tap. The shop is pretty full of boxes and old ledgers, so you have to watch your step when you walk in. Being near the Delhi G.P.O. means there’s always a lot of foot traffic. I like being in the middle of it all. My desk is usually covered in keys, property papers, and maybe a few hammers or nails. It’s not the most organized place in the world, but I know where everything is. People stop by just to ask for directions or to see if I know anyone selling a house or renting a room. I’ve lived around here my whole life, so I know most of the stories of the buildings on this street. It’s a busy life, and I don’t get much time to sit down, but I like the variety. One hour is different from the next. It’s just a small local business trying to help out with whatever the neighbors need, whether it's a new home or just a screwdriver to fix a door.
