Golden Tea Mart

The Golden Tea Mart is situated right near the Air Force Gate on Nainital Road. It’s a pretty easy landmark to give people when they are trying to find us. We are also quite close to Westal Restaurant, so sometimes the smell of food wafts over here, which is a bit of a distraction when you are trying to judge tea scents. The shop is a straightforward place. We don't have air conditioning, just a couple of ceiling fans that creak a bit when they're on the high setting. Most of the space is taken up by big metal tins and wooden crates. We spend our days weighing out portions and talking to the regulars who stop by. The traffic on Nainital Road can be a real pain in the neck, especially in the evenings when everyone is heading home. Sometimes the noise from the Air Force base is so loud we have to stop talking for a minute. It’s just part of being in this spot. We don’t have a marketing department or anyone to write fancy letters for us. It’s just us here, making sure the tea is packed correctly. Sometimes we make mistakes with the handwriting on the labels, but we fix them as we go. It’s a lot of physical work, moving those heavy boxes around. We keep a small stove in the back to make our own brew during the day. It’s a simple way to live and work here without making a big fuss about things.
