If you head over to Someshwara in Karkala, you will find V.V .Rice Industries. We are set up in a spot that’s easy for the local transport to reach. The business is mainly about handling the rice that comes from the fields around this part of Karnataka. It’s a repetitive job, but it’s important. Every day we come in, check the equipment, and start the processing. You can hear the steady rhythm of the machines from the road. We aren't a massive corporation with a bunch of offices. It’s mostly just the mill floor and a small place to sit and talk to customers. The guys working here are from the neighborhood and they know how to handle the heavy bags without complaining too much. Sometimes the weather gets really humid, which makes the work even harder, but we just keep at it. We don’t have a website or any of that stuff; we just rely on being here every day when people need us. Most of our visitors are people we’ve known for years. They come by to drop off grain or pick up their orders. We keep the gate open and try to be fair with everyone who walks through it. It’s a simple life, focused on doing one thing and doing it well enough to keep the doors open. We’ve been a part of the Karkala community for quite some time now.
