About Blue Valley Grains – Food & Beverages in Dakshina Kannada
Out here at Plot No.11 in Kulashekara, things stay pretty busy. We’re in the Mangaluru Taluka part of Dakshina Kannada, so it’s a lot of local movement every day. The place is basically a big shed where we handle all the grain. It smells like earth and dry husks most of the time, which is something you get used to quickly. We have a lot of bags coming in and out, so the floors are rarely perfectly clean, but that’s just part of the job. There’s a small office area off to the side where we keep the books and take a break. The weather gets quite damp during the monsoon, so we spend a lot of time making sure everything stays dry. It’s hard work, lifting and stacking, but we’ve been doing it for years now. We don't have any fancy machines to do the heavy lifting, just our own hands and a few trolleys. People from around the district know where to find us. We aren't big on talking much; we just focus on getting the grains sorted and ready for transport. Sometimes the truck drivers stay for a bit of tea while we load up the back. It’s a simple way to earn a living. The plot is large enough for what we need, even if the building feels a bit old and worn. It’s a practical setup for a practical business, and we are fine with that.
