RPN Seafoods is right there at 34-A Sonagar Street, which is very close to the Cuddalore Port. You can smell the salt air and the fish as soon as you get near our street. We start our day very early, usually before the sun is even up. That is when the boats come in and things get really moving. Our floor is always wet because of the ice and the cleaning we do to keep things fresh. It is a noisy place with people shouting and crates being moved around. We do not have fancy office chairs; we mostly stand or sit on plastic stools when we have a minute to rest. The walls have some salt damage from the air, but that is normal for being this close to the water. We deal with whatever the catch is for the day. Some days it is prawns, other days it is different kinds of fish. We do not have a big marketing department or anyone to write fancy brochures. We just buy the seafood, pack it up, and get it to where it needs to go. It is messy work and your hands are always cold from the ice, but it is what we know. The local guys from the port stop by to talk about the weather or the tides. It is a community thing as much as it is a business. We just keep our heads down and handle the fish.
