Vtec Engineering

Down on Mettupalayam Road, you’ll find us at number 645. North Coimbatore is always humming with noise, and our workshop is no different. Vtec Engineering is basically a place where things get fixed or made. There is usually a layer of fine dust on everything, no matter how much we sweep. We have a couple of old machines that have been running since before I started working here. They make a lot of noise, but they are reliable. We spend most of our time in overalls because there’s grease on just about every surface. It’s not a place for a clean suit. We take our lunch breaks together out back where it’s a little quieter. Sometimes a customer brings in a part that’s so rusted we aren't sure what it used to be. We figure it out eventually. The heat in the afternoon can be pretty bad, especially when we’re welding or running the heavy gear. We don't have a receptionist; if you walk in, you just have to yell over the machines until someone sees you. It’s a straightforward way to work. We’ve known the guys at the tea stall across the road for ten years. It’s just how things are in this part of town. We get the engineering jobs done, pack up our tools, and head home when the sun goes down.
