V. H. Exports is a small business located at Door No. 1/36 in Vabudagalao, Udumalpet. It’s a quiet part of town, which is nice. Our building is just a simple one-story place with a tin roof. When it rains, it gets quite loud inside, making it hard to hear the phone. We do a bit of everything here related to exporting goods. Mostly we are checking quality and boxing things up. The workspace is a bit cramped because we have more inventory than we expected this month. We use some old wooden pallets to keep things off the floor. There is a small yard in the back where we keep the empty crates. My nephew helps me out a few days a week with the inventory counts. We don't have any computers that are newer than five years old. It takes a while to print out the shipping manifests, but they get done eventually. We have a bench outside where we sit and talk to the neighbors in the evening. It’s a very local way of doing things. We don't have a big corporate structure, just me making the decisions and getting the work done. The street is narrow, so big trucks have to park at the end of the block and we use a small cart to move things. It’s a lot of manual labor but we are used to it. We've been at this spot for nearly a decade.
