You’ll find Smart Pumps Engineering at No.66 on Ginning Factory Road, over in the Satish Nagar part of Irugur. It’s an area where people are used to the sound of work being done. Our workshop is the heart of the place. It’s filled with pumps in various states of being repaired or put together. There’s always a bit of oil on the floor and the smell of metal in the air. We aren't the type to wear suits and ties. We’re usually in our work clothes with grease on our hands by mid-morning. The desks in the small office area are covered in technical drawings and old coffee mugs. It’s not a polished environment, but it works for us. We have a couple of benches where we do the heavy lifting and a few machines that have been with us since we started. The lighting isn't the best, but we have some bright work lamps for the tricky parts. We know most of the people who come in by their first names. It’s a local operation and we like it that way. We don't have any big slogans or fancy marketing materials. If a pump needs fixing, we fix it. That’s about as complicated as it gets here. When the sun goes down, we clean up the tools, lock the big gate, and head home. It’s just a steady, honest day of work every day.
