S T Engineers is based at number 39 in Bharthi Puram, Coimbatore. This part of Tamil Nadu is famous for engineering and we are just one of the many small units here. Our workshop is a practical space with concrete floors and a lot of heavy tools. It isn't a place for suits and ties. We are usually in our work clothes, dealing with metal and machinery. The air often smells like grease and burnt metal, which is just part of the job. We have been at this address for a long time. It’s a bit of a noisy neighborhood because everyone is making something or fixing something. We don't have a marketing department or a polished brochure. If you come to see us, you will see us working on whatever project is on the floor that day. It’s a lot of manual labor and technical checking. We don't use big words to describe our engineering. We just follow the drawings and make sure the parts fit. Sometimes a job takes longer than we thought, so we stay late. The office part is just a small desk in the corner with some old ledgers. We prefer being out where the machines are. It’s a simple, honest way to work. We’ve grown used to the rhythm of the workshop over the years. Bharthi Puram is where we belong and we just keep at it day after day.
