If you go down Vivekanandar Street in Sundakamuthur, you will find us at number 16/2, a building called Jayalakshmi Illam. This is where Rollerchampion Skating Academy is based. We spend most of our time out on the flat surfaces teaching people how to balance on wheels. It’s a lively place, especially in the evenings when the kids finish school and come by to practice. You can hear the sound of skates hitting the ground and the constant rolling noise all through the session. We aren't a big fancy stadium. It’s a local academy where we focus on the basics of skating and helping people get confident on their feet. The street is a regular neighborhood spot, so we know many of the people who live nearby. We keep our equipment stored at Jayalakshmi Illam and make sure everything is in good shape for the students. It’s a lot of physical activity and sometimes there are a few falls, but that’s just part of learning. We don't have a corporate office with a big staff. It’s just us and the students out there on the ground. We started this because we liked skating and wanted to have a place for it in Sundakamuthur. Most days are spent checking skate sizes and showing people how to take their first few strides without wobbling. It’s a simple, honest way to spend the day, and we enjoy seeing people improve over time. The atmosphere is pretty relaxed and we just take things as they come.
