Gramathu Kadai

You can find us at 29 L on Kaalapatti Road, right in the Nehru Nagar area. The name Gramathu Kadai basically tells you what we are about, just a simple village-style shop in the middle of the neighborhood. We started this because we wanted a place that felt familiar. The shop isn't very large, and the shelves are made of simple wood that we put up ourselves. We carry things like grains, spices, and other daily necessities that people around here use. It gets pretty dusty because of the road works nearby, so we spend a lot of time wiping things down. We don't have a big team, just a few of us who take turns sitting at the desk. The morning time is usually the busiest when the milk arrives. We have a small bench outside where some of the older men sit and talk for a bit. It’s not a corporate office or a high-end boutique. We just sell what people need for their homes. If the power goes out, which happens sometimes, we just use candles and keep going. It’s a very straightforward way of doing things. We like the rhythm of the day and seeing the same faces every morning. It’s just our little place on the corner and we plan to stay here as long as we can.
