Bala Wood Furniture Company

Our place, Bala Wood Furniture Company, is situated on Uthukuli Main Road, very close to Thamarai Koil. The shop is at number 3/105. Being near the temple means we see a lot of people passing by on their way to pray or visit. We work mostly with solid wood to make beds, cupboards, and benches. You can usually hear the sound of saws or hammers coming from our workshop area in the back. There are piles of wood planks and shavings all over the floor. It is a bit messy, but that is how a wood shop should be when work is getting done. We don't have a glossy catalog to show. We just show people the pieces we are currently working on or the ones finished and waiting in the corner. Sometimes the humidity makes the wood act up, so we have to be careful how we store it. We have been part of this community for years now. People from the nearby streets know us by name. We don't spend money on big signs or advertisements. The quality of the wood speaks for itself when someone takes a chair home and it lasts for twenty years. It gets hot working here during the summer, but we keep the doors open to catch the breeze. We take orders, build what is asked for, and help load it onto the carts or trucks. It is just steady work for us.
