Sumintra Farmer Producer Company Limited is run from Ramji’s house in Manikpur, near Barahmafi. This is located in the Chitrakoot area, which is part of the Banda district. It is a rugged part of Uttar Pradesh and farming here can be really difficult because of the soil and the heat. We are just a group of neighbors and friends who decided to put our resources together. Working as a company helps us when we need to buy supplies in bulk or when we are looking for buyers for our harvest. We don't have a big corporate structure with managers and directors. It is just us sitting around a table and figuring out what we need to do next. The address is just a regular home, and that is where we do all our planning and paperwork. We grow things like pulses and oilseeds, depending on what the weather allows each year. Some seasons are better than others, and we have learned to take the good with the bad. We don't make big promises to anyone. We just show up every day and do the chores that need doing. It involves a lot of walking in the fields and talking to the other families in the village. We want to make sure our children are taken care of. That is the real reason we do this. It’s about survival and community. Most of us have been farming since we were kids, so it's all we know.
