Pahari Masoor Producer Company Limited is located in the Bangar area of Bhadedoo, over in Chitrakoot. We work out of Pradeep Kumar’s place. Out here, the ground can be pretty dry and tough, but it’s good for growing masoor. We’ve always grown lentils in this part of Chitrakoot, but we used to just sell them to whoever came by in a truck. Now that we’ve formed this company, we have a bit more control over where our pulses go. Pradeep helps keep everything organized. Our days are mostly spent checking on the crops and making sure the storage area is dry. If moisture gets into the masoor, the whole batch is ruined, so we have to be careful. We don’t have any fancy technology. It’s just us, some sacks, and a scale. We talk a lot about the market prices and when is the best time to sell. Sometimes we have to wait a few weeks for the price to go up, which can be stressful when you need the cash. It’s a local effort, and everyone in the group lives nearby. We help each other out during the harvest because it’s a lot of work for one family to do alone. We aren't trying to change the world, we just want to make sure the farmers in Bhadedoo get a decent life from their hard work and the crops they grow.
