Vishal Food Processing Unit is tucked away at No. 5 on 11th Street Extension in North Jagannathan Nagar. Villivakkam is where we do all the work, and it can get pretty loud with the machines running all day. We process different food items, mostly just standard stuff that people need. It’s a practical setup, nothing too pretty to look at, but it gets the job done. The morning shift starts quite early, usually before the sun is fully up, so we can get a head start on the orders. We have a few guys from the neighborhood who’ve been with us for years. They know the machines better than I do. The space is a bit tight with all the crates and bags stacked up, but we make it work. Sometimes the smell of whatever we are processing fills up the whole street. We don’t really do any big marketing; the business just comes from word of mouth mostly. It’s a lot of manual labor and making sure the temperatures are right. On hot days, it gets pretty sweaty in there, but nobody complains much. We just focus on getting the bags packed and sent out to the shops nearby. It’s a basic business run by people who live right around here. We just take it one batch at a time and try to stay on top of the schedule.
