Our shop is located at 311 on 5th Street in Sastri Nagar, which is a busy little corner of Vyasrpadi. Being a Tv Tecnician in Chennai means dealing with a lot of heat and humidity that ruins electronics faster than anywhere else. The building isn't very new, and the stairs are a bit steep if you're carrying a heavy television. Inside, the space is mostly taken up by shelves of different components and broken screens waiting for parts to arrive from the city center. We spend our mornings opening up the shutters and dusting off the front counter. Most of the customers are local residents who have known us for years. They bring in their old sets and tell us long stories about how the TV suddenly stopped working during a cricket match. We listen and then get to work. It’s a lot of testing circuits and looking for blown fuses. Sometimes the power fluctuations in Chennai-600039 give us a lot of extra work to do. We don't use any fancy advertising; people just find us by word of mouth or because they saw our small board on the street. At the end of the day, my eyes are usually tired from looking at small parts, but there is a sense of satisfaction when a screen flickers back to life.
