Tradeline

Our shop is right in the middle of Sowcarpet on Subramaniam Street. The address is a bit confusing because it used to be 11 but now it is 21. Most of the old-timers still call it by the old number. If you have ever walked through Sowcarpet, you know it is a tight squeeze with all the people and carts moving about. We are a trading business, so we deal with whatever the market is looking for at the time. Our space is packed from floor to ceiling with goods. There is not much room to move around, especially when a new delivery comes in. It is loud and dusty, but it is where we have been for years. We do not have a website or any of that fancy stuff. People just know where we are and they come by or call us. We have built a lot of relationships with the other traders on the street. We drink our tea standing up because there is nowhere to sit. It is a tough way to work sometimes, especially when the heat in Chennai gets really bad, but it is what we know. We are not looking to be the biggest or the best; we just want to keep the trade going and pay the bills. Every day is different depending on what is coming in or going out. It is a bit chaotic, but there is a system to the madness that only we really understand. We just keep the doors open and see what the day brings.
