Sst Rice Mandy

You can find Sst Rice Mandy at No : 12/7 on A.E Koil Street. We are in the New Washermanpet area, which is part of Tondiarpet. It is a classic rice mandy setup. We have bags of rice stacked up to the ceiling in some parts. The air is thick with that dry grain smell. It is a very local business. Most of our customers are from right around the corner or the next street over. We spend the day weighing bags and loading them onto small carts or cycles. Tondiarpet is a busy part of the city, and our street is no exception. There is always someone shouting or a horn honking outside. We don't have air conditioning, so we just use the big ceiling fans to keep the air moving. It gets dusty, but that is expected when you work with rice all day. We have been at this location for quite a bit. It’s not a fancy supermarket. You come in, you see the rice, you buy what you need, and you go. We know our regulars by their names. Sometimes we sit and have tea when it's quiet. The floor is concrete and a bit worn down from all the heavy bags being dragged across it. It is just a simple, honest way to make a living. We keep the doors open from early morning until the sun goes down and the street gets a bit quieter.
