Srinivasa Store

We are over at 76, S P Koil Street. This is just a regular neighborhood store where you can find the things you need for your house every day. We carry everything from lentils and sugar to soaps and matchboxes. The store is packed from floor to ceiling with items, so sometimes it takes a minute to find exactly what a customer is asking for. We don't have a computer system, so we write down the prices and add them up on a small calculator or sometimes just in our heads. Most of the people who shop here live on the nearby streets and they have been coming to us for years. We know their kids and we know what they usually buy on a Saturday morning. The shop can get a bit cluttered with crates of soda or bags of potatoes sitting on the floor, but we try to keep a path open for people to walk. It is a bit dark inside because the building is old and doesn't have many windows, but the light over the counter works well enough. We open pretty early and stay open late because people always forget something they need for dinner. It is a steady way of living and we like being part of the street life here. No big corporate stuff, just a counter and a shelf for the neighbors.
