Shelter Hotel

Shelter Hotel is right here in Mylapore, at number 19 on Venkatesa Agraharam Street. It's a busy little spot, especially being so close to the Sai Baba Temple. You can hear the bells and the crowds most days. We've been here for years, watching the neighborhood change around us. The streets are narrow and usually filled with people walking to the temple or doing their shopping. Our building is nothing special to look at, but it does the job. Inside, it’s mostly just us keeping things running. My uncle started this place and now a few of us take turns at the desk. We get a lot of pilgrims and families visiting for the temple. It’s noisy outside but we try to keep it calm inside. The rooms have what you need, bed and a fan or AC. We spend a lot of time cleaning and making sure the linen is fresh. Mylapore is an old part of Chennai, so it has a lot of character. You see the flower sellers and the small shops everywhere you turn. Sometimes the traffic is a nightmare, but that's just how it is here. We don't have a big fancy lobby with marble everywhere. It’s just a plain space where you can check in and get your key. We’re just a local hotel doing our thing every day. Most folks find us by walking from the temple, and we just keep the doors open for whoever shows up.
