Selvanayagam Rice Mandi

Started the shop on Gream Road a long time back. We deal with rice mostly, all kinds of bags stacked up to the ceiling. It gets quite heavy moving those fifty-kilo sacks around every morning. Thousand Light area is always busy, especially near the Anchanayar Kovil where the traffic never seems to stop. People come in looking for specific grains, sometimes for a wedding, sometimes just for dinner tonight. We try to keep the floors clean but with all the grain dust, it's a never-ending job. The shutters go up early. My uncle used to run things here, and now it is just us managing the inventory. We spend most of our day checking weights and making sure the moisture doesn't get to the stock. Some days are slow when the rain hits Gream Road, but usually, there is someone at the counter asking about prices. We don't have much of a fancy setup, just some wooden counters and a few scales that have been here for years. It's a simple way to make a living, really. You see the same faces every week, mostly families from around here who know exactly where the Ponni rice is kept. We just keep doing what we do, day in and day out, making sure the bags are loaded right and the accounts are written down in the ledger before we close up for the night.
