I work out of a space in Anna Nagar, located at New No 55, which people around here still sometimes call Old No U-12, on 4th Main Road. My name is Satyanarayana R, and I have been an architect in this area for a long time. The way the house numbers changed can be a bit confusing for folks coming to visit for the first time, but you eventually find the place. My office is basically a part of the building that I converted so I could have my drawing boards and computers in one spot. It is a very personal operation. I do not have a big staff working for me, so when someone calls or stops by, they are talking directly to me. Anna Nagar is a familiar place to me, and I have learned all the local building rules over the many years I have been here. My desk is almost always buried under site surveys and building permits. This isn't a flashy office with modern art; it is a place where actual work gets done. I spend a lot of my time meeting with people to talk about their plans for their homes or going out to see how the brickwork is progressing at a site nearby. Architecture for me is about making the best use of the space we have available. I like the daily routine of starting my drawings early and then heading out to the sites in the afternoon.
