Safra Hotel

This is Safra Hotel on Harish Road, just off Mount Road in Chennai. We are at number 99. It’s an old building but we try to keep it in good shape. Living and working in the heart of the city means it's never quiet. There is always someone arriving or leaving. Our rooms are basic. We have beds, fans, and some have air conditioning if the units are behaving. We do the laundry ourselves most of the time. The hallway is narrow and the stairs are a bit steep. We don’t have a big fancy lobby with a fountain. Just a desk and a register where we write down the names of people staying with us. Sometimes the water pressure in the pipes is a bit low in the mornings. We are working on fixing that. Most people stay here because they have work nearby or are catching a train. We know the neighborhood well. The tea shop around the corner is where we go when we need a break. My nephew helps me with the books sometimes. We don't have a big marketing budget. We just rely on people finding us when they need a place to sleep. It’s a simple operation. We don’t make big promises. We just provide a room and a key. That is how we have always done it at number 99. We just hope people get a good night's rest.
