Raja Stores

Raja Stores is located at the I T Shopping Center on the Main Road in Thiruvanmiyur. We are quite close to the Vijaya Bank branch, which helps people find us when they are out doing their errands. Chennai is always warm, so the first thing I do in the morning is turn on the old ceiling fans to get the air moving. The shop has been here at number 141 for a while. It is a busy road outside with buses and autos constantly making noise. Inside, it is mostly just the sound of the billing machine and the bags being filled. We have a lot of stuff packed into these aisles. From rice bags to those small packets of sambar powder, it is all here. I spend a lot of time checking the stock levels because things like milk and curd go very fast in this heat. The shelving is made of old wood and sometimes the doors creak a bit when we open them. When the school nearby lets out, we get a rush of kids looking for chocolates or some notebook they forgot they needed for their homework. It is a bit of a tight squeeze when the delivery guys bring in the heavy sacks of grains. We just pile them up in the corner until we have a quiet moment to open them up. It is not anything special to look at, just a neighborhood store where people stop by on their way home from work to pick up eggs or soap. I usually grab a quick tea from the stall next door when things are slow.
