Padavedu Amman Hardware is right in the middle of Park Town. We are at New No 205 on Rasappa Cheety Street, which used to be Old No 196. If you've ever been to this street, you know how crowded it gets with shoppers and porters. It’s one of the busiest parts of the city. Our shop is filled from floor to ceiling with all sorts of hardware items. There isn't much room to move around once a few customers come in. We spend our days climbing ladders to find specific bolts or tools that someone needs. It’s dusty and cramped, but it’s been our home for a long time. We don't have a computer system to track everything; we mostly know where things are by memory. Sometimes it takes a minute to find an odd-sized pipe or a specific screw, but we usually get there. The noise of the street is always in the background—horns honking and people shouting. We don't have a fancy display window or anything like that. We just have shelves and shelves of metal and plastic. People come to us because they know we have what they need for their repairs. It’s a simple hardware business. We aren't trying to change the world, just trying to help people fix their sinks or doors. That’s how we do it here at Padavedu Amman Hardware.
