Running a business here on Armenian Street in Parys is always a bit of a challenge with the crowds. Our place at No.84 is right in the middle of everything. It’s loud outside from the morning until the sun goes down. We have these heavy machines sitting on the floor, mostly lathes and milling stuff that takes up a lot of room. The walls are painted a pale green that’s peeling in the corners. It’s not a place where you’d find a nice lobby or anything. We just have a couple of desks near the front and the rest is storage for parts and bigger equipment. We spend a lot of time on the phone or just shouting over the noise of the trucks outside. When a delivery comes, it’s a whole process getting it off the truck and through the door. We’ve got oil stains on the concrete that won't ever come out. Sometimes the tea man comes by twice a day and that’s when we take a short break. We handle a lot of metalworking gear. It’s a lot of lifting and moving crates around. Most of the guys who work here have been doing this for years so they know where every nut and bolt is kept, even if it looks like a mess to someone else. It gets hot in the afternoons, so we keep the fans going at full speed. Sometimes the overhead light flickers, but we just ignore it and keep working until the day is done.
