Nvt Rice Store

You won’t find a name on the road out here in Soorakkuppam. We are at number 12 on that unnamed road. It’s mainly rice we deal with here. When you walk in, the first thing you notice is the smell of the raw grain. It’s a very specific scent that sticks to your clothes. We have different varieties in big sacks stacked up against the walls. Some are from nearby and some come from further away. People from around Soorakkuppam come here because they know we have the basic stuff they need for their meals. We spend a lot of time weighing out portions on the old scale. It’s a bit of a workout moving those heavy bags around all day. The shop isn't very big, so we have to be careful how we stack everything so nothing falls over. We don’t really do any big advertising or anything. Word of mouth works just fine in a place like this. Sometimes a stray dog sits by the door to get some shade. We don't mind. Life moves a bit slower on this road. We open up, sweep the front, and wait for the regulars to show up with their containers. It's honest work and it keeps us busy enough. No fancy bells or whistles, just plenty of rice for everyone.
