Nithyanandam Rice Shop

Nithyanandam Rice Shop is located up on the first floor at 16 Arcot Road. It’s a bit of a climb with heavy bags, but we’ve gotten used to it over time. We focus mostly on different varieties of rice that people use for their daily meals. Being on the first floor means we don't get as many walk-ins as the shops on the ground level, but our regulars know where we are. We spend a lot of time checking the quality of the sacks we get from the mills. If it’s not good, we don't sell it. Simple as that. The space is mostly filled with stacked bags, leaving just enough room for a desk and a couple of stools. It’s not a place for browsing, really. People come in, tell us what they want, we weigh it, and they leave. Arcot Road is always noisy with buses and cars, but inside it’s mostly just the sound of grain hitting the scales. We’ve kept things running like this for a good while. Some days are slower than others. We use that time to tidy up or re-stack the older stock. We aren't interested in being the biggest shop around. We just want to make sure the people who come to us get what they paid for. It's hard work carrying bags up and down, but it's what we know how to do for our customers.
