Down at No. 3, Kennet Lane in Egmore, you’ll find the New Victoria Hotel. If you know Chennai, you know how Kennet Lane is. It’s always crowded, always noisy, and always full of people carrying heavy suitcases from the Egmore Railway Station nearby. We are right in the middle of all that chaos. Our building has been here for quite a while, and it has that old Chennai feel to it. It’s not a modern glass tower; it’s a place with some history and a bit of wear and tear, which we think gives it character. We get a lot of travelers who just stepped off a train and need a place to stay that is close by. The street outside never really sleeps, so you can always hear the sound of rickshaws and people talking at all hours. We don’t try to pretend we are a fancy five-star place. We are a practical hotel for people who need a central location. Our staff is local, and we run things in a very straightforward way. We don’t have a big marketing budget or glossy photos. What you see is what you get. We spend our days checking people in, helping with bags, and keeping the place running as best we can. It’s a busy life here in Egmore, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. If you’re coming from the station, just walk down the lane and look for number three.
