New Krishna Modern Rice Mill

Down on Southupakkam Road in Palavoyal Village, you’ll find us working away at the New Krishna Modern Rice Mill. Redhills is a busy area for this kind of thing, so there’s always something happening. We call it modern because we put in some newer machinery a few years back, but it still feels like the same old place to us. The yard gets packed with tractors during the peak season, and sometimes the line stretches way out onto the road. It’s a lot of manual labor, honestly. We spend our days checking the moisture in the grain and making sure the polish is right. The sun beats down on the corrugated roof, and it gets sweating hot inside during the afternoons. We have a small crew, mostly guys from the village who have been with us since the start. We drink a lot of tea to keep going through the shifts. There’s no big corporate vibe here, just a bunch of people trying to get the rice processed and bagged. Sometimes a machine breaks down and we have to fix it ourselves with whatever tools are handy. It’s dusty work, and you definitely can't wear your best clothes to the mill. We just focus on getting the bags loaded onto the lorries so they can head out to the markets. It’s what we know how to do and we stick to it.
