New Jothi Stores

New Jothi Stores is located at 24 Malaya Perumal Street in Georgetown. If you’ve ever walked through Georgetown, you know how narrow the streets are and how many people are always moving around. Our store is right in the middle of all that energy. We have been here for a long time, and many of our customers are people who have been coming to us for decades. We sell a bit of everything, and the shelves are usually packed tight from the floor to the ceiling. It can be a bit hard to find things if you aren't used to it, but we know exactly where every single item is kept. The wooden counters have been worn smooth by years of people leaning on them while they wait for their change. We open early in the morning just as the neighborhood is waking up. It’s a lot of work keeping up with the stock, especially when deliveries arrive on those big carts. We don't have a computer system that tracks everything automatically; we still rely a lot on our memory and a few handwritten ledgers. It’s a very traditional way of doing things, but it works for us and our neighbors. Sometimes we stand out front on Malaya Perumal Street just to catch a bit of air. It’s a busy life, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. We just keep serving the people who walk through our door. Everyday is busy here.
