National Institute Of Wind Energy (Niwe)

We are based over on Velacherry-Tambaram Main Road in Pallikaranai. If you know the area, you know how busy it gets with all the traffic passing through. Our building at the National Institute Of Wind Energy is pretty easy to spot from the road. We spend most of our time looking at how wind can be used for power. It’s not a very fancy place, just a lot of labs and offices where people are busy with technical stuff. We have been here for a good while now. Some days are quieter than others, but there is usually something going on with testing equipment or checking data from wind farms across the country. The campus has a bit of green space, but it’s mostly just functional buildings. We aren't here to sell anything to people walking in off the street. It’s more about the research and the technical side of things. Most of the staff live nearby or commute from other parts of Chennai. The canteen is okay, and we usually grab tea there in the afternoons. It’s a straightforward environment where we just focus on the work at hand. Sometimes the power goes out or things get a bit slow, but we just keep at it. If you’re coming to see us, just watch out for the traffic near the main gate because it can be quite a mess during peak hours. It takes a bit of patience to get inside.
