About Murugeshan Fruites Shop – Food & Beverages in Chennai
We open up pretty early at 52/36 because that is when the trucks come in with the crates. It is usually still dark out and the street is quiet except for the sound of wood sliding on the ground. Most people around here know Murugeshan Fruites Shop just by the stacks of boxes we keep near the entrance. I spend a lot of time sorting through the apples and oranges to make sure nothing is getting soft. The floor gets a bit sticky sometimes from the juice but we try to sweep it twice a day. People walk by on their way to work and sometimes they just nod or grab something quick. It is not a very big space but we fit a lot in there. Some days it gets really hot and we have to move the more delicate stuff further back into the shade. My hands usually smell like citrus by noon. We have been at this spot for a while now and the neighbors are used to us being here. Sometimes the kids come by after school and linger near the bananas. We just keep things moving and try to stay organized even when it gets crowded. It is mostly just about keeping the fruit fresh and making sure the crates are stacked right so they do not fall over. There is always a lot of cardboard to break down at the end of the shift. We pile the empty crates in the back and get ready for the next delivery tomorrow morning.
