Mothilal Jain Shop

People have been coming to Rasappa Chetty Street for a long time and our shop has been right here through it all. It used to be Old No 102 but now they call it New No 7. Not that numbers matter much when folks know where the green door is anyway. We handle a lot of different things here, mostly stuff people need for their homes or small trades. It gets pretty crowded on this street especially in the mornings when the lorries are trying to unload. We start early. Usually, I'm the one opening up and sweeping the front while the chai wallah goes past. It’s not a fancy place with air conditioning or big glass displays. We have wooden shelves that have seen better days but they hold everything just fine. Most of our customers are regulars who live around Park Town or come in from the suburbs. They tell us about their families while we look for what they need in the back. Sometimes the inventory gets a bit messy because we’re busy, but we usually know exactly where that one specific bolt or tool is hiding. It’s a loud area with all the metal clanking around outside. We just keep our heads down and do the work. If someone needs something fixed or a specific part, they just walk in and ask. We don't spend much time on the computer or anything like that. We prefer talking to people face to face.
