Meenatchi Stores

Our shop is located at 202, Eswaran Kovil Street in the Thoraipakkam area of Chennai. We are very close to the Sivan Kovil, so you can often hear the temple bells from here. It is a small store that my father started a long time ago. We mostly sell basic things like rice, tamarind, oils, and different kinds of dals. Chennai is a very humid place, so we have to be careful about how we store things so they stay fresh. We have many regular customers who come by every single day, mostly for small things like milk or matches. We don't have a big computerized system or anything like that. We just write things down and keep track of our stock the old-fashioned way. Sometimes the street gets a bit crowded with parked scooters, especially during festival times at the temple. It is a lot of work to keep everything organized on the shelves, and sometimes I forget where I put the new stock of soap. But we manage. It’s just me and my cousin running the place most days. We are not a big supermarket chain, just a local store for the people living nearby. We try to keep the prices fair and the quality decent. It's a simple way to live and work. Most days are the same, but we like the routine of it all. We don't have fancy lights or signs, just the items people need for their kitchens every day.
