Manikandan Stores

Our shop is on 3rd Street in Kamarajan Nagar, which is a part of Thiru Vi Ka Nagar. We are very close to the bus stand, so we get a lot of people who are just passing through on their way home from work. Being at No: 19, we are a small neighborhood store. Most people come here for their daily needs like bread, eggs, or some snacks for their kids after school. The street is a bit narrow, so it can get crowded when a few people park their cycles outside at the same time. I have lived in this area my whole life, so I know almost everyone who walks through the door by their first name. Fancy displays or bright lights are not found here. It is just a counter and some sturdy shelves. We keep things simple. If someone is short a few rupees, we usually just tell them to pay it next time when they drop by. That is how it works in a local place like this. The bus stand nearby means there is always the sound of engines and people shouting for their route, but inside the shop, it is mostly just us chatting with a neighbor about the weather or local news. We open early so the commuters can get what they need before they catch their bus. It has been our routine for a long time now and we do not plan on changing much at all because the neighborhood feels like home.
