If you head over to Karunigar Street in Nerkundram, you’ll find our little electronics shop at number 2/8. It’s not a big place, just a room filled with spare parts, wires, and old television sets waiting to be picked up. We’ve been in this part of Chennai for a long time now. The street can get a bit cramped with all the bikes parked outside, but we manage. Most of the work we do involves sitting at the workbench with a soldering iron. It’s tedious stuff, looking at circuit boards and trying to find that one tiny component that burnt out. The fans are always running to keep the heat down, but it still gets pretty warm in the afternoons. We get a lot of locals dropping off their remote controls or asking if we can fix a broken power cord. We don't charge much for the small stuff. It’s just a neighborhood shop. Sometimes the parts take a few days to arrive from the city, so things can pile up on the shelves. We try our best to get things back to people quickly. There’s usually some old radio playing in the background while we work. We don't have a big sign or anything flashy. People just know we are here. It’s a quiet way to earn a living, just fixing things and talking to the people who live nearby in Nerkundram. We like the work.
