Madras Hotel Ashoka

Pantheon Road in Egmore is a place with a lot of character. You have the museum nearby and all these old buildings. Madras Hotel Ashoka has been part of this landscape for a long time. We are at the newer number 47, but the feel of the place is still very much tied to the old Madras style. We get a lot of people who are in town for government work or visiting the hospitals nearby. It’s a busy part of Chennai, and we are right in the middle of it. Our rooms are basic and functional. We aren't trying to compete with the five-star hotels. We provide a place to sleep and a place to eat that feels familiar. The dining hall is always buzzing with the sound of steel plates and people talking over breakfast. Our coffee is strong, and the food is exactly what you would expect from a place that’s been around this long. It’s not fancy, but it’s honest. The staff is mostly older men who have worked here for decades. They move at their own pace, but they get the job done. We have families who have been staying with us for generations whenever they visit the city. It’s a bit noisy because of the traffic on Pantheon Road, but that’s just life in Egmore. We wouldn't have it any other way. We just keep the doors open and welcome anyone who needs a simple room and a hot plate of food.
