We are right in the middle of things at F/b-120 in the Kamaraj Flower Market. If you’ve ever been to the market, you know how it is. It’s loud, crowded, and smells like flowers everywhere. Kannan Floral Exports operates from this small stall. We start our work very early, often while most people are still asleep. That’s when the freshest flowers come in and we have to get them ready. There isn't much room for sitting down. We are mostly on our feet, sorting through stems and bundling things up. The energy in Kamaraj Flower Market is something else. It’s a bit chaotic, but we’ve gotten used to the rhythm over the years. We aren't a big shop with a glass front. We are just one of the many stalls working hard every day. We focus on getting the flowers packed up so they can be sent off without getting damaged. It’s a delicate job. You have to be quick but careful. Our hands usually have a few scratches from the thorns, but that’s part of the trade. We don't have a big mission statement. We just want to get the flowers out on time. The market is our home for most of the day. It’s a tough way to make a living sometimes, but seeing all the colors every morning makes it worth the effort for us. People are always shouting and pushing carts around, but it’s just the way things are done here.
