Our office is on First Cross Street in Ganga Nagar, over in the Kodambakkam area of Chennai. It’s number 32. The street is usually lined with parked bikes and people moving around. We do a lot of importing and exporting work here. It’s not really a shop where you walk in to buy a necklace. It’s more about the logistics and the heavy lifting of the trade. We have a lot of ledgers and files stacked up on the desks. The air conditioner struggles sometimes when it gets really hot outside, which is basically most of the year here. We spend a lot of time on the phone talking to people at the docks or at other offices. It’s a lot of paperwork, checking customs forms and making sure everything is where it should be. We’ve been in Kodambakkam for a good bit now. Sometimes we go out for lunch at one of the small messes nearby. The work can be a bit repetitive, just tracking shipments and checking the quality of what comes in. We don't have a big marketing department or anyone to write fancy stuff for us. It’s just a few people in a room getting the job done. We like the neighborhood, even if the traffic on the main road can be a bit of a headache during the evenings when everyone is heading home.
