Karpagam Furniture

Karpagam Furniture is over on Sivaji Street in the G. K. M. Colony part of Villivakkam. We are at No. 29/47- B. Our place is usually full of the smell of fresh wood and sometimes the strong scent of varnish. We have various chairs, tables, and wooden cupboards sitting around the floor. Some are finished and ready to go, while some are still being worked on by the guys. It's a bit of a tight squeeze in the shop because furniture takes up so much room. We’ve been in Villivakkam for quite some time now. People from the colony come in when they need a new cot for their house or a dining table for the family. We do a lot of the work ourselves right here in the back. You might see some sawdust on the floor if you come in the afternoon. It’s not a polished showroom like the ones you see in the big malls. It’s more of a workshop where things actually get made by hand. We use basic tools and our own strength to get the job done. Sometimes a customer wants something custom and we have to spend time figuring out how to make it work. We aren't the fastest, but we try to be steady with our work. The street can be a bit narrow for the delivery trucks, but we always manage. It’s just us doing what we know, which is working with wood.
