Being in the Tass Industrial Estate in Ambattur means there is always a lot of noise. No. 115 D & E is where we set up the engineering shop. It’s a hot place, mostly because of the machines and the way the sun hits the metal roof in the afternoons. We have a lot of heavy equipment around, and the floor is usually covered in some kind of oil or metal shavings. It’s not the cleanest place, but it’s an engineering shop, so that is expected. We’ve got a small crew who knows their way around the lathes and the drills. Most mornings, the gates open early so we can start on the orders that piled up from the day before. Ambattur is a tough place to work because of the traffic, but once you’re inside the estate, it’s just about getting the metal cut and the parts finished. We don't have a big front office or anything like that. If you come by, you’ll probably find us in greasy overalls talking over the sound of a grinder. We eat our lunch together in the corner where the fan works the best. It’s a lot of hard work, and sometimes the machines break down and we have to spend half the day fixing them instead of doing the actual jobs. But we’ve been at this for a long time now and we know the routine.
