Jayalakshmi Stores

Our shop is right on the main road at 48, Annai Indragandhi Salai. It has been here for a good amount of time now. Mostly we deal with regular folks who live around here or people passing through on their bikes. The road is always busy which is good for us but it gets dusty inside sometimes. We spend a lot of time dusting the jars and packets on the shelves. It is not a very big space but we try to fit in as much as we can. Usually, one of us is sitting near the entrance watching the street while waiting for someone to stop by. We don't have any fancy computer systems or anything like that, just a simple book to keep track of what we sell. In the mornings, we unload the new stuff that comes in. Sometimes the boxes are heavy and it takes a while to get everything put away. The neighbors come in for small things like matches or soap. We chat a bit about the weather or how the road is getting more crowded every year. It feels like home because we are here more than anywhere else. We don't try to be anything special, just a local store that stays open late enough for the office workers coming back home. It is a quiet life even with all the traffic outside our door and the sun shining on the pavement.
