If you’re looking for us on Mahatma Gandhi Road, you might see the old sign says number 72 but the new one says 74. It’s a bit confusing for delivery drivers, but we’ve been here long enough that most people in Nungambakkam know where the Goutham Manor is. This part of Chennai is always busy, and the humidity can be a real struggle some months, making everything feel a bit damp. We spend a lot of time keeping the AC units serviced because they work hard all year round. The building has a traditional feel to it, with thick walls and some older furniture that has seen a lot of guests come and go. We don't have a fancy lobby with marble everywhere, just a simple desk and a few chairs where people wait. Our team is small, mostly people who live nearby and take the bus in every morning. We have some guests who have been staying with us every time they visit Chennai for twenty years. They don’t expect anything modern; they just want a familiar face and a room that feels the same as it did last time. We mostly just keep our heads down and do the work of changing sheets and scrubbing floors. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s what we do here on the high road. We just try to keep things steady and reliable for whoever walks through the door.
