Honicel India Pvt Ltd is based over at No 58/86 on Munusamy Street. We are tucked away in the Athipet Industrial Estate, which is part of the larger Ambattur area. It’s a crowded part of town, and the streets are narrow. You have to be careful driving the big trucks through here. Our building is pretty standard for this estate. We’ve got high ceilings and a lot of concrete. It stays relatively cool inside even when the Chennai sun is beating down outside. We spend our days dealing with honeycomb structures and paper products. It’s a lot of cutting and gluing and making sure the layers are straight. There is a specific smell to the glue we use that you never quite get out of your clothes. We don’t have a big corporate team. It’s mostly just the guys on the floor and a couple of people handling the phones. We eat our lunch together in the small break area near the back. Sometimes the power goes out, and we have to wait for the generator to kick in. That’s just life in Ambattur. We’ve been at this address for a long time. Everyone on Munusamy Street knows us. We don’t try to be anything we aren’t. We just make our products, load them onto the pallets, and send them on their way. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy every day from morning until evening.
