We are tucked away on the second floor of a building on Sunkurama Chetty Street, at number 4. It used to be old number 16, which sometimes confuses people trying to find us. Our shop is number 55. This whole area is full of narrow streets and old buildings, so it’s a bit of a maze if you aren't used to it. We carry all sorts of general hardware items. We have boxes of nails, bolts, hinges, and stuff you’d need for basic building or maintenance. Since we are on the second floor, we spend a lot of time hauling boxes up and down the stairs, which is quite a workout. The shop isn't very large, so we have to be clever about how we stack things. It’s mostly just shelves from the floor to the ceiling. We don't have any fancy displays; it’s just the hardware in its original boxes. Customers come in with a specific bolt they need to match, and we spend time digging through the drawers to find the right size. It’s a quiet way to spend the day, mostly just us and the inventory. We’ve been in this spot for a long time and we know most of the other shopkeepers on the street. It’s a tight-knit place despite all the people moving through. We just provide the supplies people need and keep our records in big handwritten ledgers. It works for us and has for years.
