You’ll find Gujarat Machine Tools at Old No. 135 on Linghi Chetty Street. This street is famous for tools and hardware, so we fit right in with the rest of the shops. It’s an old building, like most of them in this part of town. The stairs are narrow and the walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we’re too busy for that. We deal in all sorts of machinery. Most of our day is spent talking to mechanics or factory owners who need something specific. We don't have a marketing department. If someone needs a lathe or a drill, they come here because they know we’ve been on this street for ages. It gets hot in the afternoons, but we just keep the fans going and keep working. There’s no corporate hierarchy here; we all just pitch in where needed. The paperwork is mostly done by hand or on an old computer that’s seen better days. We like the hustle of Linghi Chetty Street. It’s noisy and crowded, but it’s where the trade happens. We don't try to impress anyone with a fancy showroom. We just show them the machines and tell them the price. It’s an honest way to run a business and it keeps the lights on. We have tea together every evening before closing up the shop. It’s a simple life, but we take pride in knowing our tools and helping people get their own workshops running properly.
