Sowcarpet is a very busy place to be and we are right in the middle of it at 67 Narayana Mudali Street. If you’ve ever walked down these streets you know how crowded it gets with rickshaws and people carrying bundles. Our shop is filled with all sorts of gift items from floor to ceiling. We spend most of our morning unpacking new stock and trying to find a place for it on the shelves. It’s a bit of a maze in here sometimes. We handle a lot of wholesale orders so there are always boxes being taped up and labeled for shipping. The smell of the street food from outside sometimes drifts in and makes everyone hungry before lunch. We don’t have much room for a fancy display so things are just stacked where they fit. It’s a hectic way to work but we are used to the pace of Sowcarpet by now. We know most of the other shopkeepers on the street and we help each other out when someone needs a hand with a heavy load. It’s a tight-knit community of traders. We stay open late most days because that’s when the market is the busiest. It’s tiring work but seeing the shop full of colorful things makes it worth the effort. We just try to keep up with the orders and make sure everything is packed securely so nothing breaks during transport.
