Farmers Rice

Our shop is located at 14-88, Sasthiri Nagar, right in the heart of the Koyambedu area. If you’ve ever been to the market there, you know how busy and crowded it stays. We deal in rice, and our place is always filled with the smell of fresh grain. We have stacks of heavy burlap sacks piled high against the walls. It’s a lot of hard work, moving those bags around every day. We start our mornings very early, usually before the rest of the city is awake, to receive shipments from the mills. The floor is never completely clean because there’s always a bit of rice that spills out here and there. We sweep it up, but it’s a never-ending job. We don’t have any fancy signs or a modern storefront. It’s just a traditional shop where people come to get their supplies. We’ve been here for a long time, and we know many of the families who buy from us. My father started this business years ago, and we have kept it going in the same simple way. We use a basic scale to weigh everything out and write down the sales in a paper notebook. It’s not a complicated life, but it’s a busy one. Koyambedu is a loud place, but it’s where all the action is for a rice trader.
