Down here at No 17 and 18 on the Bye Pass Road, things stay pretty hectic. We are located right at 7th Cross Street in Rajalakshmi Nagar, which is a busy spot in Velacheri. Most people know the area because of the traffic, and we are right in the middle of it all. Working on cars takes up most of our time from morning until late evening. You’ll usually see a few vehicles parked out front or inside the shop getting looked at. It gets hot under the hoods, especially during the summer months here. We’ve been in this neighborhood for a bit and have seen how much Velacheri has changed over the years. It used to be much quieter. Now, there are shops everywhere. We spend our days dealing with engines, brakes, and whatever else comes through the door. It’s not always clean work, and our hands are usually covered in grease by noon. We don’t have a fancy waiting room with air conditioning or anything. It’s just a regular workshop where we get under the cars and see what’s wrong. Sometimes parts are hard to find, so we have to wait a day or two, which is just part of the job. Most of the folks who come by are locals from around Rajalakshmi Nagar. We just keep the doors open and get through the pile of work as best as we can. It's a living. We have piles of old tires in the back and a workbench that has seen better days, but it serves us well.
